I thought this was such a harmless snack until I realized what kind of pounds I was putting on.

I said this is good for me. It's natural. Omega 3. No additives. Healthy fats. Yada Yada. Everytime I felt like eating something that wasnt an actual meal, this is what I ate. Reasoning to myself that it's just a snack . I was siked to have the peanut butter that drips off the knife and onto the cracker. I kept thinking how awesome this shit was and I was glad to have spent the extra buck to get the qaulity PB.

Then I stepped on the scale and I was like holy shit. I must have picked up 5 pounds in 2 weeks.

The PB and crackers was an ill fated idea for RobFunk. I guess it's not OK to have 7 or 8 of these because I can't go to sleep or because I have nothing better to do.

I am not sure why I am saying all of this. I guess I am bored and I wanted to post something here in the health forum.

So that's it. This is not the ideal snack. It's 190 calories per two table spoons. And then plus the cracker. Each cracker with PB on it, roughly 40 or 50 cals.

Peanut butter and rice cakes, much better option. The crackers will kill you.
Are you sure? I am really convinced it is the PB. It's a VERY dense food in terms of holding calories.

Like tomato based stuff, I can eat all day and not gain because it's one of the least calorie dense foods out there. (as an example)

There are better options, but if you are trying to minimize carbs peanut butter is not as bad for you. It is high in fat, but you should be able to burn it provided you aren't taking in a lot of carbs with you.

Basically if you eat too many carbs it adds to your problems, if you eat little to no carbs it is ok.

Rice cakes won't solve your carb problems, either. Put your PB on some celery sticks.

Take a piece of quality bread. Now slice it in half. Put in toaster. Take it out and add almond butter. Add banana if so inclined.

Almond butter more tasty. And it's rich so you don't need a whole lot. It is not cheap so that is more incentive to use it sparingly.

MODERATION

just like other foods that contain "good fat" (almonds, walnuts, avacado etc), you dont want to eat too much. tablespoon of PB is good a day. just like if you are eating almonds or walnuts (both good for you) you really shouldnt exceed more than 1 1/2 ounces a day. and like someone else said, the crackers are probably more to blame

Be wary of peanut butter. Especially if you eat it frequently.

Peanuts sometimes develop a mold called aflatoxin.

This is a known carcinogin.

Big Bite Taste Test: Peanut Butter

Creamy, crunchy and even a bit quirky, these peanut butters from the store are jelly's best friends.

BEST CREAMY
Skippy Creamy Peanut Butter
Velvety smooth, this classic won over tasters with a "rich, buttery" consistency and "slight sweetness." No wonder Skippy sells almost 90 million jars of the stuff each year: As one judge put it, "This is peanut butter perfection." ($2.49 for 16.3 ounces, at grocery stores)

BEST HONEY
Nutty's Old Fashioned Peanut Butter, Honey Roasted Crunch
If brittle and peanut butter had a child, this "sweet, nutty" concoction would be it. With a "crystallized sugar" texture, Nutty's "tastes like honey-roasted peanuts." It would even "make a great candied topping for ice cream," one judge said. ($6.95 for 12 ounces, nuttyspeanutbutter.com)

BEST CRUNCHY
Jif Extra Crunchy Peanut Butter
Chunky peanut butter fans couldn't contain themselves over this "thick and filling" peanut butter. "It's like having a big bag of peanuts," one taster said. Jif—so named because the manufacturer wanted something easy to say, spell and remember—also scored points for its "smoky, dark-roasted" flavor. ($2.60 for 18 ounces, at grocery stores)

NATURAL CREAMY
Koeze Cream-Nut Natural Peanut Butter
It doesn't get more natural than Koeze—this old-school company makes its peanut butter strictly from Virginia peanuts and sea salt. Tasters were bowled over by its "salty kick" and "fresh peanut" flavor—thanks in part to Koeze's vintage, small-batch roasters and grinders. ($6.29 for 17 ounces, koeze.com)

BEST NATURAL CRUNCHY
Smucker's Organic Chunky Peanut Butter
In 1897, Jerome Monroe Smucker started selling apple butter from the back of a horse-drawn wagon—our tasters were thrilled that he made the switch to peanut butter. Judges loved this "lip-smacking" peanut butter's "salty" taste and "big chunks of nuts." One taster said, "It'd be great stirred into a Thai peanut sauce." ($4.70 for 16 ounces, at grocery stores)

BEST ODDBALL
P.B.Loco Raspberry White Chocolate Peanut Butter
This peanut butter—from a company started by three former lawyers—is all natural, gluten-free and kosher. That doesn't mean it's low on flavor, though. Tasters found the berry-tinged spread "sweet and tangy." As one judge said: "It's like a fresh raspberry tart." ($6.95 for 16 ounces, pbloco.com)
